Description of the organization

Vadaskert Child Psychiatry Hospital and Outpatient Clinic is one of the leading Institutes of Hungarian child and adolescent psychiatry. To date, it is the only foundation owned institute in Hungary specialized in the treatment and intervention of mental disorders in children. Since its founding in 1993, more than 34,000 patients with different mental disorders and from different geographical origins within Hungary have been treated. With regard to the patients, the hospital manages approximately 5 to 10 new patients with ADHD a week and about 500 patients taking ADHD medication with regular checkups. In addition to the clinical work, the Vadaskert Child Psychiatry Hospital is a highly respected research and educational centre.

 

Previous experience

The Institution has several research projects with national and international collaborations (the Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary; the Eötvös Lóránd University, Faculty of Education and Psychology, Budapest, Hungary; the Central European University, Budapest, Hungary; the University of Szeged, Hungary; The University of Debrecen, Hungary; the Medical School of the University of Pittsburgh, USA; Yale University, USA and the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden) in different fields of child and adolescent psychiatry (depression, bipolar disorder, suicide, Tourette Syndrome, obsessiveā€compulsive disorder, autism and ADHD).

 

Profile of staff members

The clinical and research teams comprise 7 child and adolescent psychiatrists, 8 psychologists and 6 special teachers.

Dr. Julia Gadoros (MD, PhD) is the founder and Medical Director of Vadaskert Child Psychiatry Hospital and Outpatient Clinic, one of the leading Institutes of Hungarian Child Psychiatry and is a specialist in psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy. As the Scientific and Medical Director of the Institute, she is heavily involved in both current research and everyday patient care. She has more than 100 peer reviewed papers in Hungarian and international journals, and has published several book chapters. Her main interest is the analysis of risk factors in adolescents with ADHD and related psychiatric conditions.

Judit Balázs (MD, PhD) is the Head of a Research Team of Vadaskert Research Center, and also a Senior Clinical Child Psychiatrist in the Vadaskert Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Hospital and Outpatient Clinic. At the same time she is the Head of the Department of Developmental and Clinical Child Psychology of Institute Psychology Eotvos Lorand University, Budapest. She is tutor at the Doctoral School of the Semmelweis University, Budapest.  Her main interests are: ADHD, adolescent risk behaviors and suicide prevention. She is the first author of the Hungarian Guidelines on ADHD. She is the first author of several peer reviewed papers. She is currently the Hungarian partner Principal Investigator of two EU sponsored collaborative projects coordinated by the Karolinska Institute, and she just completed a third one.

 

Main tasks in the project

This partner will contribute to patient and control group recruitment of WP3 and WP8.
